Pictures to burn, I mean memorize

While I still have had time to spare thanks to the holiday break, I tried a different way of memorizing. I don't know if it really worked or if it's just the lots of spare time I had to mumble the phrases over an over again. Making nerdy wallpapers was fun. 8) Here's one:

I don't think I'll be able to make a lot, with the break ending in a few days. Boo-hoo. So far I only managed to read 1 case out of... lets not talk about that. I'll read all of them before classes resume. :|

The pictures/wallpapers are uploaded here in Photobucket. I'll post others as soon as I well, finish them.

The ghost of netizen past

The internet is a cruel, cruel media. Unlike TV and radio where a moment on-air is just that -on-air and fleeting, a post could possibly be there forever, with the potential to be seen by people (or robots/aliens/whateverlifeformtheremaybe) eons later. It's like leaving permanent handprints/footprints/buttprints/fingerprints/whateverprints in an immensely huge canvass for everyone to see.

Humiliating videos go viral on YouTube. Typographically erroneous and misleading tweets get re-tweeted. Justin Beiber trends. Innocent and well-meaning posts are read and re-read until we find something in it to criticize. It's like giving your present self a bite off a golden apple or a serving of ambrosia. When you later morph into someone else as you grow older, that immortal piece of you remains existent and unaltered. It basically becomes a different person posing as you, someone you can't disown because it IS you -from the past.

How much of "past me" is in the web, I do not know. I might be all over the place, hiding along with all the other junk and past versions of other people. Least I can do is control whatever damage that past me could possibly do by deleting some of it. I mean, that's the reason why only a few posts are left now. hoho

I'm not in tune with the idea of leaving a manipulable me -a text that can be read in whatever way the reader would want it; a text that may seem physically or theoretically unalterable as courtesy to creator but nonetheless ascribed with different, and even conflicting, meanings. What and how much of me I would want to leave, I do not know.

Let's call this the ghost of netizen past. There is a chance of it haunting the ever-changing real-world person. Nonetheless, whatever fear of such chances are overridden by the need to express and to be. So I resolve to choose which ghosts I can afford to let loose. And I leave one now.
Since there's the word "ghost," here's for an eerie Christmas!

testing, testing

I think I have to write something. Anything. I haven't done much writing in a while so now I'm on a hunt for a good app that will let me post stuff here.

I've been in this operation "stay away from PC/laptop." Surfing through a tablet or a small gadget is not much fun. See, the embedded flash applications don't work. Ergo, no Facebook games for me. I also deleted most of the games I had. Focus. Focus. Focus.

Problem is, now I feel like creativity's getting sucked out of me. So now I'm thinking of writing so at least I have some "creative" outlet to still let the rift side of my brain function, or so I think.

I'm posting from "Pen-my-blog" app just to see it it works. I hope it does! It better do. Hehe

UPDATE: The official Blogger app is better and functional afterall. I edited this post because formatting was baaaad and I could post pictures. Here's the post before this update:

Day 16

A song you used to love but now hate: The Greatest Love of All

I used to like this as a kid, but I now find this song so sad. Too sad. "I learned to depend on me... Learning to love yourself, it is the greatest love of all."

Day 12

A song from a band you hate: Stupid Love -Salbakuta

Hate is such a strong word. Let's use the word "dislike."

I dislike them so much, I wouldn't even post a video. Ugh.

hello UP Law!

I got my admission slip this Tuesday and boy do we have READINGS. Readings for the orientation with the dean, mind.

Being a good girl, I found a copy of the readings (including the optional ones, actually. hihi) in the library. Good start: I now know where the library is and where the reserve section is located.

While I was leafing through the pages of the books the librarian gave me...
Librarian looked at my ID.
Librarian: Is "Ferdinand" your brother?
Me: He's my dad.
Librarian: Ah... Naabutan ko kasi sya. (I was here when he was still a student.)
Me: *smile* (inside: Ma'am that was 30 yrs ago.)

Now I have 160+ pages of readings plus five articles of the Philippine Constitution to read and study for next week.

No I'm not complaining. I asked for this. I wanted this. I'm feeling gravity. *thud*

Day 9

Day 9, A song that you can dance to. Jingle Bell Rock from Mean Girls

Thanks to Econ100.1 Christmas presentation for Professor Solita Monsod. We did NOT dance exactly this way, btw.

Day 8

Day 8 A song you know all the words to: UP Naming Mahal, composed by Nicanor Abelardo

On top of my head. haha! I had to memorize this as early as in my freshman year because of UP MCO. Oh the memories. This came in handy when I took the Cheerleading PE class since the school hymns are sung every after basketball game. Not to mention graduation where I sung this whole-heartedly (ehem).

Day 7

A song that reminds you of a certain event: Conway Twitty and Joni Lee - Don't Cry Joni

This is a very old song. I remember hearing this song on the radio on lazy afternoons when I was little. Last month my sister found this song in the Magic Sing karaoke we were using and lo, the birthday girl sung this. Hallooo my dear sister, if you happen to read this, know that well I remember you. Come home and cook pasta for me. haha

Day 6

A song that reminds you of somewhere: America - You can do Magic

This old song reminds me of our room in our old house. Every morning our yaya will turn the radio on so we know it's time to wake up. This song always turns up. It's like a station ID. The radio station's name is Magic. So there.

Day 5

A song that reminds you of someone: Carol Banawa - Muntik na Kitang Minahal

An original music from the Filipino group The Company, Muntik na Kitang Minahal expresses regret for a love lost. In English it says "I almost loved you."

The song became popular around the 90's to he early 2000's, I think. What I remember is that it was waaay back when I was little.

Who this song reminds me of? A good friend who sung this at videoke one night. Maybe this was why the Timezone crew was telling us they're closing down and we had to leave. Thanks to her I couldn't help but laugh (or give a smile) when I hear this song.

Day 4

Day 4 - A song that makes you sad: Celine Dion - I love you goodbye

Not just this song, but most heart-felt sad love songs make me... sad. Not that I can relate to it, but you'd have to admit it, this one for example tells a very sad story. And I'm a sucker for sad stories. Another song goes "sad movies always make me cry." I say "sad love songs often drive me to tears" or something like that.

Nina and Juris's versions are also good.

Day 3

Day 3 - A song that makes you happy: King Harvest - Dancing in the Moonlight

How can one not smile, hearing this song? Both the original King Harvest version and the one by Toploader, introduced to our generation by A Walk to Remember, never fail to make me smile. It's a happy song.

For more happiness, there's the Toploader version too:

Alyson Stoner's version of the song has a cute music video I saw on YouTube. However, the beat was not the happy, feel-good beat of King Harvest and Toploader. It was cute and dance-y but not the one that makes listeners let loose (in a good way).

Hey! Anyone interested in buying a condo in EASTWOOD CITY?

A friend's involved with Eastwood Properties and they're selling three new towers. The first two will be good in 2012. The third one will be in 2013, the other wing in 2014. They also have their latest project which will be finished in 2015.

For inquiries, e-mail wingblade07@yahoo.com. Thanks! :D

Day 2

Day 2 - Your least favorite song: Jessie J. - Do it like a Dude

I dislike it so much I wouldn't even embed a video of it. Ugh.

Don't get me wrong, I'm on hating on the singer. I like her voice and her song Price Tag. She's like Lady Gaga and Katy Perry in one. But this song is just trying too hard.

Day 1

I know this will be cut short for a couple of days (weeks, I think) but I just couldn't resist.

Day 1 - Your favorite song: Adele - Turning Tables

Well at least for now. It's on loop.

I couldn't help but love Adele. By chance I came across her Chasing Pavements live video in YouTube and I loved it! What makes her great is not just her voice, or the emotion in her singing, or the compositions themselves, but the fact that people would want to LISTEN to her music. It's not just about watching videos of scantily clad women dancing, or wiggling their bodies like electrocuted worms (yung parang kinuryenteng bulate lang).

Kudos to Glee for featuring some songs by Adele. I personally liked Gwyneth Paltrow's (Holly Holiday) cover of this song.

achib

I had a long day. But it was worth it.

3.5 hrs of waiting in line. Going from MRT Taft to North Ave. Trinoma to UP. And I was FOREVER ALONE. Haggard. But this was worth the rush:

Ok nevermind the typo. It's supposed to be Face Off, ok.

And Iskwiki, you have been pwned. After a day of baffling me, I have been victorious in posting our thesis. *tribal noise and dance* The triumph of premetev in modernity. *more tribal dancing*

random

Since I'm now not minding any academic load until the end of summer, I kinda have time to post "stuff." So "enjoy" my blabbering.

Imma sing sing from the tangles of my heart is crushed by a former looove. Can you help me find a way to carry on again? You make me wanna call you in the middle of the night. You make me wanna hold you til the morning light. You make me wanna love. You make me wanna fall. You make me wanna surrender my soul. You are the one who makes me happy when everything else turns to gray. Can you sing with all the voices of the mountain? Can you paint with all the colors of the wind? You're the apple to my pie, the straw to my berry. Let's just get married. You left in the rain without closing the door. So tie a yellow ribbon round the old oak tree. It's been three long years. Nine days, eight hours, forty minutes, ten seconds since you called. Don't say you love me, you don't even know me. Baby now that I found you I won't let you go. I build my world around you. I need you so baby even though you don't need me. though your heart is aching. what's the use of . You'll find that life is still worthwhile if you just . I feel bad for a while. But then I just smile. I go ahead and smile. I guess the change in my pocket wasn't enough and I'm like, forget you. Forget you. I found her diary underneath a tree and started reading about me. Speaking words of wisdom, let it be, let it be. Let me be the one to break it up so we won't have to make excuses. There's a rainbow always after the rain. Sunshine through my window, that's what you are. I have a crush on you. I hope you feel the way that I do. I need a hero. I'm holding out for a hero til the end of the night. He's got to be strong and he's got to be fast and he's got to be fresh from a fight. Love me for a reason, let the reason be love. 1, 2, buckle my shoe. 3, 4, shut the door. 5, 6, pick up sticks. Every long lost dream led me to where you are. You can shake an apple off an apple tree. We don't care about the young folks, talking bout the young style. We don't care about the old folks talking bout the old style too. Don't you worry there my honey. We might not have any money but we have our love to pay the bills. When we're hungry, love will keep us alive. Love love love love love, love love makes the world go round. All we care about is talking, talking only me and you.

---my apologies to the composers of the songs from which these lines were taken.

I'm your average superhero

I've been hiding this since I could remember. I've been sneaking up on different people, blending with the air or crawling from beneath the shadows. People I argue with end up crying for their mama not because I dazzle them with intelligence and wit but because I secretly inflict them with a poison stinger. I can confuse people from their strategies but this ability comes with a price, as I become almost weightless when I do so. I can also transform into a penguin so yeah, that little penguin you see following you might be me. And I can turn turtles into rubber. Comes in handy when I need to tie my hair.

See I'm your average superhero. I went through childhood, high school and now I'm finishing college and going to law school. Tough job, you bet.

How I wish. Ooops, be careful what you wish for. I'm not wishing for the superpowers I just mentioned above. It's just this "Random Superhero Generator." I find it funneeeh.

It says I have fortitude, but only when I'm happy. And I'm foolish so I use my superpowers for no good. No I don't want superpowers if that would mean I be notorious for being foolish.

Big red dragons danced to the beat of the percussion. It was a little chase in the narrow streets of Manila. They swung and swivelled, tossed and whirled by young men in yellow shirts and red pants. They each followed a ball, likewise carried by young men. Cars and pedestrians waited patiently to take their turn to cross the roads. People stuck in the slow traffic watched as the mythical creatures came to life.  A team of Filipino-Chinese held a tarpaulin while walking ahead of the dragons. It said "Happy New Year, Kung Hei Fat Choi!"

A few blocks away from the center of Binondo, the little China in Manila, the Chinese new year is alive.
