On Bar Results

Rumor has it that the results for the 2012 bar exams will be released tomorrow. Whatever happens, I just wanna say that I love UP Law and I would like to believe that all the graduates will be great lawyers.

As engraved in our school lobby:
"The business of a law school is not sufficiently described when you say that it is merely to teach law or to make lawyers. It is to teach law in the grand manner, and to make great lawyers." -Justice Oliver Wendell Holmes, Jr.

Sleep

I find it difficult to sleep when the power's out. I can't recall the last time before last night (Ondoy, perhaps?) but at that time I slept alone in my room while our parents and the rest of my siblings shared a big room upstairs.

There's a story that bugs just creeps me out until now. An R. L. Steine, methinks. It's about a kid who woke up to a normal day and finds the whole neighborhood suddenly so weird. A neighbor with a child of his (or her? I can't recall) age moved in and they became friends. His old friends never. called him nor dropped by his house. It was summer. He assumed they were out on summer camp. He found their new neighbor weird. People looked at them oddly when they were together. There was also something unnatural about the neighbor's parents. They never bothered to even greet him when he comes over to their house.

Turns out the protagonist was dead and the kid neighbor sees dead people. The dream in the beginning of the story was what really happened. The kid left some fire when they roasted marshmallows at home one night. Their house burned down he died in his room. All along he thought it was a just a bad dream. I'm not sure how it ended exactly but the idea still creeps me out as it did uhm, 10 years ago.

What if I wake up to a bad dream and later on find out that the dream was the reality, and the happy world I live in is the real dream? What if this is all a dream, and in reality there's a zombie apocalypse going on? Or we're being invaded by aliens. I'm not really sure. If life's but a dream, I haven't woken up.

A strange mix

I never thought that tea and beer could go together and make a nice drink. It's called the Heineken Green Tea drink. When a friend told me about it, I got really curious of this strange drink, and bugged her the whole afternoon to give it a try. Strangeness has always carried with it some charm. In the end she gave in and we went to the tea place right after dinner.

Crab balls or something, and tea
I'm no beer drinker, let that be stressed. Tried it once and I don't like it, except when mixed with something else like in a punch or shake. A little wine is fine with me too. Some food just taste great with it. So see, the taste (and texture, but definitely not the smell) is all I'm after.

Honestly, I don't get the idea of having "drinking sessions." Some people say it's not the alcohol that's good, but the company and the conversations while drinking. I don't get it. Let's talk when you're sober, over a cup of coffee or while having cakes and tea. I think what they're after is how alcohol can loosen up one's lips so they can talk freely. But when you're drunk, you're drunk and you fall asleep and have a bad headache the next morning.

Tea on the other hand is a drink I regularly have. It started last year when I tried out some teas my parents usually buy. Since then I always have my own stash. I like black teas, fruit teas, green tea; I love peppermint, but I hate jasmine. I enjoy my tea's aroma but there's something about the flowery smell of jasmine that tells me "that's a flower and it tastes like grass."

I guess that's how the idea of mixing tea and beer got me curious. An unusual mix of a drink that calms and another that sedates; one that I enjoy hot and another that is best served ice-cold; one that I like and another I don't (usually). They're mixed together to form this strange drink that's surprisingly great. It tastes like some weird calamansi juice -that's the best way I could describe it. I dunno where the citrus-y taste comes from but I like it.

I don't know if beer drinkers and tea lovers will like it. The idea sounds like sacrilege. But then what is sacrilegious in teas and beer? That is one strange idea. I like it.

It's supposed to be "green tea" but it's not green at all

---
Where's this Heineken Green Tea anyway? I got mine from Tea 101 located at Tomas Morato. :)

Seasons of Law

A whole school year of being in Law school has passed elapsed. Now we're blissfully spending our potentially last summer when we wouldn't be compelled to do any law-related work, unaware of our final grades from the second semester and of our eligibility/ ineligibility to enroll for certain subjects next term. Ignorance is bliss, they say; but I think the person who said so might have died not knowing what hit him. There's this anxiety creeping every now and then which I brush off when I remember we can't do anything about the exams we already passed or failed. To pray and pray hard is all we could do, aside from just enjoying every moment of freedom we have for now.

How was a year in law school... I'd borrow a song from Rent the musical to describe it. There are some feelings which words alone cannot express, and I think the whole year couldn't be summed up in a few lines. Nonetheless, here it goes:
525,600 readings. 525,000 moments so dear
525,600 readings. How do you measure, measure a year?
In highlights, in recits, in midnights and cups of coffee. In cases, in piles, in digests, in fives.
525,600 readings. How do you measure a year in the lib?
How about laaaaaw? How about laaaaw? Measure in law. Seasons of law!

Yes, that's how it was and how it will continue to be. FUN! A classmate suggested the "law" be read/sung with a German accent. After a full school year, I would like to believe we're still the same idealistic young people who dream of changing the country, or the world. We don't look like vicious soul-eaters just yet. While our college batch mates were tweeting about finding jobs, exploring, soul-searching, quitting their jobs, or in other words -not being in school and simply living their lives, we were inside the old, cold and dark building we now call our second home.

For those who didn't go digital for their copies of assigned cases, I think they each have at least a 10-ft stack of white paper. That's literally a mountain of readings. More trees will be cut down for our future use. Some might switch to tablets by next sem to help save on paper. Photocopying is expensive, btw. 500-1,000 pesos a week is how much a student would have to shell out to buy photocopies of all assigned readings. #truestory

Here's the cheesy part of this pizza blog: law school was made more fun thanks to these guys. We'll have to bear with each other for three more years. I kid, but only about the "bear with each other" part. Let's all love one another! For the next three YEARS! (years, years, years, years, years, years, years, years.... *fade*)

My apologies to those whose were cut (and also those who don't want their faces in my page.
PM me for violent reactions, if any).
I didn't want our faces to be so recognize-able so I used this app and it kept cutting the edges.

Have you met Simsimi?

A couple of weeks ago, my timelines in different social networking sites were flooded with Simsimi posts. People were posting snapshots of funny, witty and sometimes touching convos with the bot. I don't think their lack of social skills pushed them to start talking to a bot through an app. Boredom, curiosity, and the urge to do something else other than what we're suppose to do (aka procrastination), if I guess it right, are the reasons I see for people my age to try this out. It took me two weeks to get me curious enough to try out the app myself, and boy did I end up with dead end convos like this one:

Real people will always win. HAHA. Still not clever enough to fool someone in to falling in love with a "person" named Simsimi. Who knows? It's only been 10 years since the app was made available. It's been "learning" since then. After a bajillion years it might even end up as a sage. A repository or human knowledge! Or maybe not. It's just an app. But who knows? Who knows.

How many lawyers does it take to change a light bulb?

How many lawyers does it take to change a light bulb?

Three. Two opposing counsels to argue on how to do it, and a judge to render a decision and order it's execution.

Pictures to burn, I mean memorize

While I still have had time to spare thanks to the holiday break, I tried a different way of memorizing. I don't know if it really worked or if it's just the lots of spare time I had to mumble the phrases over an over again. Making nerdy wallpapers was fun. 8) Here's one:

I don't think I'll be able to make a lot, with the break ending in a few days. Boo-hoo. So far I only managed to read 1 case out of... lets not talk about that. I'll read all of them before classes resume. :|

The pictures/wallpapers are uploaded here in Photobucket. I'll post others as soon as I well, finish them.

The ghost of netizen past

The internet is a cruel, cruel media. Unlike TV and radio where a moment on-air is just that -on-air and fleeting, a post could possibly be there forever, with the potential to be seen by people (or robots/aliens/whateverlifeformtheremaybe) eons later. It's like leaving permanent handprints/footprints/buttprints/fingerprints/whateverprints in an immensely huge canvass for everyone to see.

Humiliating videos go viral on YouTube. Typographically erroneous and misleading tweets get re-tweeted. Justin Beiber trends. Innocent and well-meaning posts are read and re-read until we find something in it to criticize. It's like giving your present self a bite off a golden apple or a serving of ambrosia. When you later morph into someone else as you grow older, that immortal piece of you remains existent and unaltered. It basically becomes a different person posing as you, someone you can't disown because it IS you -from the past.

How much of "past me" is in the web, I do not know. I might be all over the place, hiding along with all the other junk and past versions of other people. Least I can do is control whatever damage that past me could possibly do by deleting some of it. I mean, that's the reason why only a few posts are left now. hoho

I'm not in tune with the idea of leaving a manipulable me -a text that can be read in whatever way the reader would want it; a text that may seem physically or theoretically unalterable as courtesy to creator but nonetheless ascribed with different, and even conflicting, meanings. What and how much of me I would want to leave, I do not know.

Let's call this the ghost of netizen past. There is a chance of it haunting the ever-changing real-world person. Nonetheless, whatever fear of such chances are overridden by the need to express and to be. So I resolve to choose which ghosts I can afford to let loose. And I leave one now.
Since there's the word "ghost," here's for an eerie Christmas!

testing, testing

I think I have to write something. Anything. I haven't done much writing in a while so now I'm on a hunt for a good app that will let me post stuff here.

I've been in this operation "stay away from PC/laptop." Surfing through a tablet or a small gadget is not much fun. See, the embedded flash applications don't work. Ergo, no Facebook games for me. I also deleted most of the games I had. Focus. Focus. Focus.

Problem is, now I feel like creativity's getting sucked out of me. So now I'm thinking of writing so at least I have some "creative" outlet to still let the rift side of my brain function, or so I think.

I'm posting from "Pen-my-blog" app just to see it it works. I hope it does! It better do. Hehe

UPDATE: The official Blogger app is better and functional afterall. I edited this post because formatting was baaaad and I could post pictures. Here's the post before this update:

Day 16

A song you used to love but now hate: The Greatest Love of All

I used to like this as a kid, but I now find this song so sad. Too sad. "I learned to depend on me... Learning to love yourself, it is the greatest love of all."

Day 12

A song from a band you hate: Stupid Love -Salbakuta

Hate is such a strong word. Let's use the word "dislike."

I dislike them so much, I wouldn't even post a video. Ugh.

hello UP Law!

I got my admission slip this Tuesday and boy do we have READINGS. Readings for the orientation with the dean, mind.

Being a good girl, I found a copy of the readings (including the optional ones, actually. hihi) in the library. Good start: I now know where the library is and where the reserve section is located.

While I was leafing through the pages of the books the librarian gave me...
Librarian looked at my ID.
Librarian: Is "Ferdinand" your brother?
Me: He's my dad.
Librarian: Ah... Naabutan ko kasi sya. (I was here when he was still a student.)
Me: *smile* (inside: Ma'am that was 30 yrs ago.)

Now I have 160+ pages of readings plus five articles of the Philippine Constitution to read and study for next week.

No I'm not complaining. I asked for this. I wanted this. I'm feeling gravity. *thud*

Day 8

Day 8 A song you know all the words to: UP Naming Mahal, composed by Nicanor Abelardo

On top of my head. haha! I had to memorize this as early as in my freshman year because of UP MCO. Oh the memories. This came in handy when I took the Cheerleading PE class since the school hymns are sung every after basketball game. Not to mention graduation where I sung this whole-heartedly (ehem).

Day 7

A song that reminds you of a certain event: Conway Twitty and Joni Lee - Don't Cry Joni

This is a very old song. I remember hearing this song on the radio on lazy afternoons when I was little. Last month my sister found this song in the Magic Sing karaoke we were using and lo, the birthday girl sung this. Hallooo my dear sister, if you happen to read this, know that well I remember you. Come home and cook pasta for me. haha

Day 6

A song that reminds you of somewhere: America - You can do Magic

This old song reminds me of our room in our old house. Every morning our yaya will turn the radio on so we know it's time to wake up. This song always turns up. It's like a station ID. The radio station's name is Magic. So there.

Day 5

A song that reminds you of someone: Carol Banawa - Muntik na Kitang Minahal

An original music from the Filipino group The Company, Muntik na Kitang Minahal expresses regret for a love lost. In English it says "I almost loved you."

The song became popular around the 90's to he early 2000's, I think. What I remember is that it was waaay back when I was little.

Who this song reminds me of? A good friend who sung this at videoke one night. Maybe this was why the Timezone crew was telling us they're closing down and we had to leave. Thanks to her I couldn't help but laugh (or give a smile) when I hear this song.
